One of the many things I love about Vienna is that though it is a major city, it has also a very close connection to nature. Not only the in surrounding areas but also right in the center of the city. Donaukanal, an artificial side arm of the river danube runs right through the heart of the city, offering a green oasis for people and animals alike.
The Museum of Military History organises a reenactment weekend every summer, where different historical military groups and other reenactment groups from the middle ages upwards meet and let people and especially children experience life in military camps.

In case you're wondering: Bishop takes pawn (this was before famine took all pawns, the black queen poisend her way across the chess board, the white king ran off with a knight and a lot of other crazyness was commanded by the two jesters who played).
Pöllau in Styria is a wonderfull place to spend some days during summer. While it offers a lot of possibilities for walking and spending time outside, I spent 4 days painting. I did take the opportunity though, to visit and observe some old and new friends:
